We have had a wonderful last week in Cuckoo's Class of our first half term!
We have painted our clay snails and had the opportunity to show them to the whole school as part of Harvest Assembly. We created Snail Habitat's out of autumn leaves, to place our snails on and give them a home. Year 1 bravely stood up in front of the rest of the school and explained what we had done to celebrate the season. Thank you for all your support in my first half term at South Tawton- I have settled in really well and I am so pleased with the progress all of the class are making. I hope everybody has both a lovely rest and lots of fun during half term, see you in November. Hello, apologies for the delay in Cuckoo's class first blog post- I am still getting used to the systems at South Tawton, but I have finally cracked this one! Cuckoo's Class have settled into Year 1 incredibly well this half term, we have had lots of fun and also done a lot of learning. They have welcomed me into the school community fantastically and what a great first half term I have had here.
This week we have been practicing writing number sentences, using cubes and counters to support our understanding of number bonds to and within 10. The children are becoming more confident in recognising number bonds fluently and love making their +/= symbols with their arms! To compare and contrast different traditions, we had our own pretend wedding ceremonies. We all enjoyed the wedding cake and fizzy drink afterwards. We had an awesome day at Paignton Zoo seeing the animals. We wrote some great sentences about our trip out.
We have managed to stay awake this week despite lots of our learning having a sleepy theme. We have talked about the benefits of a good night's sleep, how we get ready for bedtime and how sleep time was different in the olden days. We made sleep potions, and even the play dough smelt of lavender! You will see the dreamcatchers we made on display in class.
We have started our final half term in Year R by visiting Mrs Glover's farm and local gardens. We are amazed by all the things we can see just around the corner from our classroom.
The children enjoyed a picnic on the field as part of our whole school VE Celebrations.
The children looked fantastic in their red, white and blue outfits. Thank you parents for all your contributions, we had a lovely feast! This half term we are learning all about about growing. From lifecycles of animals and plants to growing our own beanstalks; we will be looking, drawing and explaining how living things grow and change. This week we have planted our beans and read these texts.
We have learnt about Easter celebrations and signs of Spring. We have made cards, completed treasure hunts and made our own Easter gardens and potions using spring plants. We enjoyed a glorious sunny afternoon in the forest school area. Another busy week to end the term off nicely.
There has been lots of swashbuckling learning in Year 'ar'. We have made treasure maps, created treasure chest ideas, found out about Pirates and competed a treasure hunt. We have also used watercolour paints to make seascapes. For drawing club we have read 'The treasure of Pirate Frank' and watched Captain Pugwash. |
