We've been learning about Ancient Egyptians in History this term which the children have thoroughly enjoyed so far. This week we made cartouche's from clay and the children wrote their name in hieroglyphics.
To start this half term off, we are looking at the book 'Iggy Peck Architect'.
We discussed what an architect does and that all buildings need to be planned before being built. We looked at some blueprint plans from Maxwell's dad which the children loved. We then built our own models of a building and describe what they looked at using adjectives to help make our writing more interesting. The children have started a module on digital writing. Using a 'docs' document on a chrome book. They have been exploring how to use space bar, return key and how to make capital letters.
They were tasked to write about a lost teddy- they all continued their understanding of the docs document by exploring how to change size of the font and change colour of text. This term, as part of our plant topic, we planted our own runner bean plants. They have grown amazingly! The children have made sure they are warm, watered and cared for perfectly.
We have also been investigating about deciduous trees, evergreen tree and wild flowers. I am so incredibly proud of year one. They were amazing ambassadors for South Tawton Primary school. They listened intently, were well-mannered and behaved impeccably.
We spent our morning, exploring the aquarium with our guide Becky, learning all about the different habitats in the sea. In the afternoon, we put our learning to the test, making hats with different habitats and who lives in these habitats. Here we are exploring the aquarium. Welcome back to the Summer term of Year One! Starting off this term, we are beginning to explore the concept of times tables. We are practising counting in 2s, 5s, and 10s. This weeks we have been looking at making equal groups. We have been challenging ourselves with a set amount of one object and looking at making equal groups with them. I challenged the class to collect 12 of one item and ask them to see if they could share these items into equal groups. The class rose to the challenge and here are some ways we made equal groups. Year 1 are just starting to look at Mass and capacity. The children were asked to weigh animals. We started by weighing and looking at which animal is heavier and lighter. We then investigated which the weight of each animal using cubes to measure the mass of the animals.
Finally, we compared the animals discussing which was heaviest and lightest and looking at the difference in weight. |
