We have great pleasure in launching the 2020 Charles Causley Trust Young Person’s Poetry Competition. We invite you to forward this message to any relevant staff members in your school, and to children who are currently home-schooling.
The competition is open to all children and young people aged 5 – 18 and our website gives full details of the different categories and how to enter. Please visit us at https://causleytrust.org to find out more. Entry is FREE and prizes will include vouchers, books, and other writing-related treats! Plus, winners will be invited to a prize-giving event hosted by our Patron, Patrick Gale, in October 2020 at the North Cornwall Book Festival. The theme of this year’s competition is Environment. In the current circumstances, we hope our competition can be used as a creative and inspiring resource for children still attending school and for those who are home-schooling. Extra time at home or school could be a great opportunity for children to think about the environment and get down to some wonderful creative writing! Please visit us at https://causleytrust.org to find out more. With best wishes from The Charles Causley Trust. Our school needs you! Help us win £5,000 of National Book Tokens for the school library - and get £100 for yourself! Just enter the competition online, it only takes a minute: https://www.nationalbooktokens.com/schools Dear all,
We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who contributed to Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra’s Somewhere Over the Rainbow Project. The response was fantastic with over 600 rainbows submitted and over 14,000 views in the first 24 hours. If you have not yet seen the video, it can be viewed in full on our website https://bsolive.com/news/bso-voices-meet-over-the-rainbow/, Facebook or Instagram. We have also put together a special art only edition on YouTube https://youtu.be/CiqXBJT9eZ8. We hope you enjoy it as much as we have enjoyed putting it together. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. All the best, Catherine Catherine Hoolihan BSO Participate Coordinator (Schools Hi everyone!

We are being encouraged to forgo group gatherings for afternoon tea and picnics/parties, and instead hold a smaller celebration in the garden or on a doorstep with your household. Think mini sandwiches, cakes, scones with jam and cream and a good old cup of tea. If you need inspirations, more ideas, recipes or tips on how to throw your own VE Day Stay At Home Street Party, the government have sent up a website dedicated to providing you with a full toolkit of resources at www.ve-vjday75.gov.uk As a whole school, we would love to see what you do! Message from Bruno Peek LVO OBE OPR " We are encouraging all those taking part to undertake the ‘Nation’s Toast to the Heroes of WW2’ at 3pm on the 8th May, from the safety of their own home by standing up and raise a glass of refreshment of their choice and undertake the following ‘Toast’ – “To those who gave so much, we thank you,” using this unique opportunity to pay tribute to the many millions at home and abroad that gave so much to ensure we all enjoy and share the freedom we have today. However, you could take part in celebrations safely from home by joining your BBC Local Radio station initiative in making your own VE Day Great British Bunting. Download everything you need at bbc.co.uk/makeadifference The Royal British Legion is calling on people across the UK to join in a moment of reflection and Remembrance at 11am on Friday 8th May, the 75th Anniversary of VE Day, and pause for a Two Minute Silence. I hope that we will all support this aspect of VE Day from the safety of our homes too." Victory by Cristina Daura will form part of the online exhibition by the Imperial War Museums. Photograph: Cristina Daura © Imperial War Museums Barcelona-based Daura said: “Victory can be seen as something strong. But, at the same time fragile. It’s not something we are given for free.” She has captioned her bold, colourful, abstract work, entitled Victory, with the message she aims to convey: “Victory is both a strong and a fragile concept. The illustration depicts victory achieved at the end of conflict as if it were a seed that must be nurtured in order to thrive. Like a flower, victory must be taken care of in order to be re-gifted to future generations.” The April 100 club draw has taken place and the following people/numbers won. 1st 19 Claire Reddaway 2nd 67 Melanie Jewell 3rd 87 Kerry Rushton The prizes will be available from the school office when school re-opens. In other news, crisp packet recycling has raised nearly £60 so far. Thank you all! Please see message below from Devon Youth Parliament:
Devon youth parliament is part of a national network of elected young people age 12-18 who are campaigning on issues that matter to our age group. This year, the national campaign is ‘Protect Our Future’ and as a group of Devon young people, we recognise how important this is for young people in this area but also across the world. To kick start our Devon campaign, ‘Greener Devon’, we have set up an environmental competition for ages 0-18 (see below) and we would love for your students to get involved. We would like them to design a logo and/or poster about the environment for our campaign, Greener Devon. The logo must be circular so we can use it on social media. On the poster we would love to see ideas about how to help the environment and be eco-friendly. There are 4 age categories, 0-6,7-11,12-15 and 16-18. To submit entries, either email to greenerdevon@gmail.com or use the hashtag #greenerdevoncomp on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter. Please ask participants to include a name and age. As a school, you might want to use this as part of a lesson - there is so much we can do to help the environment, even during lockdown! Thank you, Devon youth parliament More information can be found here Dear parents,Please follow the link to an update letter from Mrs Underwood which also contains the results of our recent home-learning survey. Thank you to everyone who responded to the survey so positively - you're all doing an amazing job at home. Please remember that you can contact us by email and request a phone-call for you or your child, if things are feeling tough. Cluster Several classes now have 'Cluster' accounts where the children and staff can share photos and comments. I'm really enjoying being part of these groups and seeing the lovely things you're doing at home. Cluster is a lovely light-hearted and safe way to share news and feel the class social vibe that is so important to us all. Zoom All classes have now had the chance to take part in a zoom meeting and these will be happening regularly as another way to keep the pupils in touch with us and each other. If your child is nervous of taking part, why not suggest that they join with their cameras off and microphones on mute, so that they can see their friends and feel involved, even if they do not wish to contribute. Back to School There has been a lot of debate and speculation in the media about when schools will reopen. The Three Hares heads and the DMAT have been planning ways to do this which will help children to integrate back into school life in a safe and successful way. At the moment, we have no date for when this may be, but are all looking forward to it! Critical worker school School continues to open for the small number of children of key workers who have no other safe childcare provision. Communications Please keep in contact with your class teachers by email, sending in photos and discussing home learning. Teachers are working everyday to support the children as best we can. We're incredibly proud of our children and families for the way they are adjusting and finding a routine for work and play during this period. We hope that the additional choice of activities between BBC Bitesize, Hamilton Literacy and White Rose maths has enabled you to find the right balance within your family. From Monday 11th May, the White Rose maths worksheets will be available to subscribers only. We are currently in the process of subscribing for this as a school, so your access should be unaffected. Blog pages Please take a moment to explore the school news, class and well-being blog pages. There are so many lovely photos and stories on the class pages. The school news blog is regularly updated with new activities and ideas for home-learning. The Well-being blog is a place to go if you're looking for any support. Have a great weekend and please do not hesitate to contact us if you need us. Best wishes, Sarah Marvin |
