Year 1 are just starting to look at Mass and capacity. The children were asked to weigh animals. We started by weighing and looking at which animal is heavier and lighter. We then investigated which the weight of each animal using cubes to measure the mass of the animals.
Finally, we compared the animals discussing which was heaviest and lightest and looking at the difference in weight. Mrs Goodwin sent us a video clip to tell us she had spotted something yellow on our CCTV camera from around the school. She told us it was a friendly alien called Beegu.
Miss Barton shared a photo of Beegu and we wrote our own descriptions of him. Here are a few of them. This morning, Miss Barton was called to work early as something had appeared in our school field! We went out to investigate, we found foot prints, yellow pieces of material and a spaceship looking thing. The children had lots of question about: What was it? Why had it come to our school? Where is the creature from the spaceship?, What does it look like?, What texture is the creature? Hopefully, we'll have some answers later in the week.
Year 1 had a wonderful time celebrating World Book Day. We joined the Ocean Conservation Trust and listened to a wonderful story read by a mermaid! It was very exciting to have a sneak peak at the aquarium we will be visiting after Easter. Throughout the day we met with our Year 6 buddies to share our books and costumes and we made finger puppets to act out our stories.
This week Year 1 have started a new unit of learning in Design and Technology, Veggie Smoothies!
First we have to make sure we knew how to identify a fruit. We learnt that vegetable is the name for any edible part of a plant and that the fruit is part of a plants life cycle. We explored lots of vegetables to find the seeds and this helped us to say which were fruit. Year 1 enjoyed a fantastic day of Maths learning last Wednesday.
We used Numbers to write our very own class story all about number bonds. We found Maths very helpful when building a city scape out of lego. We found out that Maths was beautiful when painting symmetrical bugs and found our mathematical knowledge to be an excellent tool when solving problems! 14/02/25
We have really enjoyed learning about different explorers this last half term. Many children have been doing their own research and bringing wonderful writing and drawings in to show the class. To finish this unit of work we have all written a information text about a chosen explorer. Here are just some examples. |
