This week we continued our understanding of materials. We discussed what would happen to materials when we put them into water. The children made predictions and then we had fun exploring with water what happen to these objects and what materials the different objects are made from. We briefly discussed what is different about the materials using the words heavier and lighter than
In year one, we have been working really hard in Maths to compare numbers. Looking at two numbers and thinking about which one is bigger or small. Challenging ourselves with new vocabulary 'greater than' and 'less than' to explain to others the difference between our two numbers. We have extended our learning by using the less than, greater than and equal to symbols as well as words in our maths lessons. Give your year one, two numbers and ask them to tell you which is greater than or less than? Write two numbers and see if they can use <,>,= correctly?
Today in history, lots of the children enjoyed sharing what toys their parents used to play with when they were younger. We watched a clip about Victorian toys then we explored some toys that Victorian children used to play with, here are some pictures. We enjoyed hoop play, marbles, skipping, ball on a string. We decided that a lot of the toys we still play with now but they look a little different!
Can the children tell you the difference between toys now and in the past? What a brilliant start to year 1!
The children have embraced the new routines and shown Mrs Goodwin and Miss Barton the amazing learning behaviours they learnt and used in Year R with Mrs Culverhouse. Some of our learning this week..... In English, we have been thinking about how to look after our world, ourselves and others. Sharing the book 'Here we are' by Oliver Jeffers. In Maths, we have been getting to grips with sorting, counting and representing numbers. In history this term, we are looking at Entertainment through the years. This week, we are going to start the topic, looking at ' How toys and games have changed'. It would be lovely if you could share with your children, the games you played when you were younger and maybe they could chat with grand-parents and ask the same questions. |
