The class have been looking at the artist Bridget Riley. We have looked at her optical illusion creations and today, we explored how we can make line art our own piece of art. We explored vertical, horizontal, diagonal, wavy, circle and cross hatch lines. We added colour using different mediums, pencil colour, felt pens, charcoal, oil pastel and art pencils. We tested our favourite designs on black paper with white chalks.
The children have really immersed themselves in understanding the Creation story. They are able to retell the story to their talk partners. Can they retell you?
We discussed how early religion told stories using stained glass window. So we created our own creation story stained glass windows. This week we have continued our learning of science. We have explored magnetic materials and experimented with objects around the class to find which materials are magnetic.
We found that items made out of metal are magnetic. We have started our exploration of all things space! We started by enjoying the story Astro girl, the children wrote questions to ask Astrid, (The girl from Astro girl). They learnt what they need to do to be an astronaut.
The 'Astrid, the girl from Astro girl' sent the class a later asking them to write a fact-file about space. The class enjoyed learning facts about space from Astronauts like Sunita Williams to help write their fact-files. Here are some amazing examples... Exploring materials continues, we had to find which materials would keep teddy dry. In our class discussion, we talked about which materials absorb the water. Can the children tell you what absorb means?
We looked at what happens to some materials when they absorb water, paper-got lots of holes and the wool got soggy. We found that only three of our materials were waterproof, can they name the materials? Can your child talk to you about which material would be best for teddy and why? We have been learning lots of new skills in computing. The biggest challenge for all the children is learning to type their own username and password which they'll use for the rest of their school journey.
The children have to identify where numbers and correct letters are on the keyboard plus use the shift functionality to make the capital letters and exclamation marks within their passwords. The children are rising to the challenge really well, it can be a slow process in lesson but its getting quicker. Once we logged in we have been developing our mouse pad skills by using the paint function on the chrome books. |
