This term in year 3, we have being learning about items we find in a classroom (Dans ma salle de classe). To help cement our knowledge, our lesson involved playing a well know game called Loto aka Bingo! There were various prizes up for grabs including new equipment and 3 golden tickets to be won. We hope you all have a lovely half term :)
This week Year 3 have been writing a prequel story for a book that we have been reading in class called How to Live forever. They have produced some incredible stories so far and we are going to be creating and designing our own books next week. We are planning to send our finished copies off to the author for him to read.
This week Year 3 have been sequencing different sounds using a program called Scratch. We have tested out various sounds for our Sprite, learnt how to change and adapt our backgrounds and some basic movement of our Sprite. Scratch is free to use at home and I’m sure that the children would love to show off their programming skills.
We have read The Ugly Duckling as part of our work on Celebrating Differences.
We have learnt that name calling can be hurtful behaviour and the memory of the hurtful feeling can stay for a very long time. Hans Christian Anderson has written a powerful story that can teach us a lesson. Through drama we explored ideas that could be learnt from the story. The children discussed:
This week, the children in Year 3 have been working hard to learn their times tables facts.
We have been looking at the 2, 5 and 3 times tables. The children have been investigating the link between multiplication and division. They have used counters to show that division questions can also be solved by sharing or grouping. The children should now all have access to Times Tables Rockstar's and can work on their multiplication knowledge at home. The children were very excited to come to school dressed up today!
They are wearing clothes that show 'what they want to be when they are older.' Can you guess what the children would like to be when they are adults? We have been reading The BFG by Roald Dahl. We have thought about our favourite parts of the story: "My favourite part of the story was the helicopters carrying the giants." Alice "My favourite part is when Sophie meets the Queen." Archie "My favourite part was the BFG using the Dream Catcher." Leo "My favourite part was when Sophie and The BFG were looking at all the dream jars." Evie The children loved the part when The BFG showed Sophie his collection of dream jars.
They have written some fantastic ideas of their own: As part of our Science topic this term, we have been learning about raw and synthetic materials.
We have learnt that raw materials can come from living things or they can be found under the ground. We have learnt that synthetic materials are made by humans and have a variety of uses. This week, the children enjoyed investigating different materials and sorting them into groups. Wow , what an exciting week we have had. The children have done Mrs Graham and I proud.
The children really enjoyed their circus acts. They all performed well. We have all enjoyed our harvest celebrations at the church and in the school hall. We hope you all have a restful and peaceful half term break. |
