year 3

Dog safety workshop

25/6/2025

This week Years 2 and 3 had the opportunity to have the WUFF project come to school and teach them how to be safe around dogs. This included lessons on how dogs behave in certain situations and how we should behave around them too. Following the theory, the children were then visited by Denver the golden retriever who let them practice what they had learned.

Ancient Greece Day!

22/5/2025

What a day we had this week celebrating all things Ancient Greece.
It seemed the goddess Demeter was in mourning as the day started with the weather being terrible, but then Hades must have released Persephone from the underworld as the day progressed...

We started the day being put into two city state teams: Sparta vs Athens followed presentations of our favourite gods.

We then revisited some of our cutting skills and made some (very garlicy) Tzatziki, wrote our names in Greek and then read about Greek pottery.

After break, the children painted their pinch pots and created Greek themed paper plates with temples on! We then had the Olympics followed by a feast.

With so much on, we didn't manage to finish all I had planned - so this Friday we will be performing mini Greek plays in our teams in front of the class!

Well done team Sparta for winning on the day - a historically accurate victory, they certainly played up to the Spartan stereotype.

Sunny days!

30/4/2025

With another bank holiday upon us, would you believe that we only have two Mondays left until half term?!

The children have hit the ground running, with science experiments on plants, the building of castles and learning about the Ancient Greeks - a Greek themed day is being organised for the last week of the term.

In Maths we are learning about mass and capacity, so get the measuring jugs and scales out. The perfect excuse to bake something together!!

With the sun shining, remember the importance of sunhats, sun cream, sunglasses and water.

World book day and parents evening!

6/3/2025

It was great to see many of you during parents evening this week. Overall, the children have been doing well and have fully adapted to being in KS2. It is crazy to think World Book Day is already here and with it, only 4 more months of school...

Today we are promoting the art of reading, but really we should be promoting it everyday. Be it reading a book, magazine or even the subtitles on TV. Being able to read unlocks a child's future and their full potential, as well as their creativity and imagination. In a busy world of social media, picking up a book can enable you to shut off from the noise. So grab a book and have a go!!

1st week back

28/2/2025

We hit the ground running this week and half-term seems like a distant memory already.
We have carried on learning about measuring and perimeters in Maths.
In English we have focused on upgrading our simple noun phrases by using adjectives and verbs.
Would you believe that we are half way through Year 3 already?!

Recycle!!

30/1/2025

Year 3 have taken part in a recycling audit with Devon County Council this week and what a learning experience it was!

We discovered that we can do a lot better as a school, but DDC were impressed with our knowledge and enthusiasm to reduce, reuse, recycle!!

We will hopefully have some recycling bins coming our way soon.

Nearly there!

11/12/2024

Not long now and Year 3 will have a well deserved break. They have shown an incredible amount of development and learning this term (Even if it has been a long one!) I am impressed by them all.

Last week we got stuck into some food tech, more specifically our cutting and peeling skills. Safe to say, radishes are not their favourite vegetable to eat and did provided myself and Miss Martin with ample entertainment.

This week we are tasting more foods before cooking tartlets next week!

Have a lovely break and festive season when it comes!

November 28th, 2024

28/11/2024

Year 3 have had Recycle Devon come in and give a lesson regarding batteries, how they work and how we can help reduce wasting them. We also had the opportunity to create our own to power a clock, calculator and LED light using fruit and vegetables!

We have also had the joy of coming to school in our pyjamas and raising money for Children In Need.

In music, we have been using instruments to create our own backing music for different scenes and video clips. Using music to help stoke imagination and feeling.

Half term already?!

21/10/2024

Yep, it is that time of year already. 8 weeks in school is a long time, however I feel as though it has flown by for Year 3.
Already the children are showing progress and adapting ever so well to KS2.

We have been creating pots similar to those made by the beaker people throughout the Bronze age and had a go at painting them too. Year 3 are also moving on to more complex mathematics, where they are adding and subtracting 10s and 1s across 100s. In English, they have been retelling the story of the first painting, putting themselves in the shoes of a stone age person and writing in first person using a range of grammatical structures.

It has been a learning curve these past two months and Year 3 deserve a break - enjoy!!

A journey back in time!

10/10/2024

This week Year 3 have travelled back in time to the Stone Age!

We have been studying the Stone age through to the Bronze age in History but also focusing on the subject in our English writing. The children have focused on imagining what it would have been like to be in the Stone Age. Their school trip to Kents Cavern truly helped bring their imaginations alive, solidifying their knowledge of the period, despite the fact it can be a difficult time in History to picture. I was particularly impressed by how much knowledge the children were able to remember from lessons and share during the tour.
