Year 5 have been studying 'The Children of the Benin Kingdom' by Dinah Orji in our English lessons. This week we have been discussing relative and adverbial clauses.
A budding class of entrepreneurs!
Enjoy your summer holidays everyone, what a lovely class you have been to teach. Mrs Leslie & Miss Watts It's been a Musical kind-of week in Year 5. Firstly, well done to everyone for performing so well in the music concert on Thursday, you did brilliantly. Year 5, your recorders sounded fantastic. They have also spent time rehearsing for the play. The dress rehearsals went really well this morning and all of the Year 5 staff are looking forward to the performances next week. Year 5 pupils enjoyed making camouflage animals in their Wildlife Champions session on Thursday. They hid them in the forest school area and then went on a animal hunt. They were also set the challenge to find 50 worms to enable them to understand how hard birds have to work to feed their babies
Lovaton Farm Trip (thanks to Scarlett W!)
Year 5 had a super day out at Lovaton Farm on Monday. Discovering the many ways that Jane's farm is sustainable was perfect for our topic of Energy and Sustainability. We enjoyed walking around the farm and finding out how areas of field are allowed to grow wild to encourage insects and how herbal leys will help the soil and pollinators. We enjoyed sampling some of their delicious apple juice and saw the orchards where the apples grow. In the afternoon, we were set the challenge of trying to come up with some imaginative ways that wool could be used so that farmers get a fairer price for the wool. Thank you so much again to Lovaton Farm, Leaf Education and to Scarlett W for winning us the day out! We've enjoyed exploring the story structure of our English text 'Kensuke's Kingdom' this week. In particular, we've learnt about stories with multiple 'story mountains' and putting together a writerly knowledge chart.
Don't forget, it's our trip to the Farm on Monday! Have a lovely weekend. Year 5 enjoyed a street-dance lesson with Jessica on Wednesday morning. Thanks so much Jessica, we had a super morning!
Ducklings and Teddy Bears Thank you to Sharon (Daisy and Dottie's Gran) for bringing in her ducklings on Tuesday for us to see. They were absolutely gorgeous and Year 5 had great fun meeting them. We enjoyed a lovely on the field on Friday, enjoying some down-time with our teddy bears. Pupils have worked so hard this term and done a brilliant job at completing their behaviour board. Well done Year 5. Have a super half term and we'll look forward to seeing you in June. Paperchain challenge ... The Manor provided the perfect venue to enjoy a variety of activities for our Residential. We all agreed how brilliantly the children behaved, they were excellent representatives of our young community. Thank you to parents for getting them there and special thanks to all members of staff who gave up their time to make this trip possible, without you we couldn't enjoy such trips away. We hope these photos offer a small snapshot of the fun we had.
