Year One loved their lesson with Niall from Devon Cricket where they learnt basic batting and bowling techniques.
Year One loved sharing stories with their Year Six reading buddies! In English, the children have invented a story setting by creating their own imaginary planet. The children have developed some brilliant descriptive vocabulary by looking at a variety of different objects and using interesting adjectives to describe. The children have been able to apply the new vocabulary to their writing and have written some amazing stories about Beegu the alien visiting a new planet. Well done, Year One!
This week, the children started to develop their trackpad and keyboard skills on the laptops. The children had some time to create some digital art which really put their skills to the test!
It has been a wonderful final week of term filled with festive joy! The children blew everyone away with their incredible performance of Boogie Woogie Nativity! These tiny dancers were certainly showing off their moves. Our trip to the theatre was a great success! This week, we started a new topic for DT. The children loved exploring a variety of puppets and watching a video of a marionette puppet being made. The children used hand and finger puppets to create stories and shared them with the rest of the class. We considered what the puppets were made from and discussed how they work.
It has been another busy week in Year One. In science, we carried out a fair test as part of our everyday materials topic. We set up a test to see which fabrics would be suitable to use for an umbrella. The children made predictions and then observed what happened when water was dropped on to the fabric. In music, the children have been learning about pitch and rhythm.
What a super week we have had in Year One! The children have settled so well and I am incredibly proud of them all.
