Curriculum Enrichment
At South Tawton Primary School, we believe all children deserve a well-rounded, culturally rich, education. The enrichment curriculum plays a crucial part in achieving this objective. To achieve this, we carefully plan a busy schedule of exciting trips, visits and visitors throughout the school year to enhance our school curriculum. Where possible, these trips and visits link to our class topics, to bring the children's learning to life and to make it as memorable for them as possible. Throughout the year, enrichment days and weeks are woven into the curriculum and school diary. These aim to extend and reinforce previous learning, as well as providing new or different experiences for all our pupils.
During the Autumn term so far we have seen Year R enjoy blackberry picking and making cupcakes, we have had visits from Farmwise, Devon and Somerset Fire Service and Devon and Cornwall Police, a school harvest assembly, 2 extremely well attended school tours (where parents got to see our wonderful school for our prospective new starters), 2 open the book assemblies, our school disco, cross country at Castle Drogo and a carol concert at Castle Drogo for the school choir. We also enjoyed a trip to the pantomime in Exeter, a shared school Christmas dinner and carols around the Christmas tree.
The first half of the Spring term has seen Year 1 head off to The National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth. Some of our KS2 classes at South Tawton have taken part in the Mini Police initiative with Devon and Cornwall Police. Our EYFS provision have had visits from real life superheroes (Police and NHS staff included). Classes from across the school have competed in inter-hub matches of football and netball as well as matches against other schools in the locality. We had our very first Flourish Forum in the school hall and we have all enjoyed a whole school Science Day.
Next half term we are looking forward to World Book Day, Comic Relief and our Year 3, 4 and 5 performance.
