Dunnocks - Y2

Art & DT.

In DT last term, we explored wheels and axles, with the children designing and making their own cars using card. They thoroughly enjoyed the process and demonstrated excellent problem‑solving skills and creativity. The finished cars were fantastic, and it was wonderful to see how proud the children were of their work.

In Art this week, we learned about the famous Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai and studied his iconic artwork The Great Wave off Kanagawa. The children created their own wave collages using a range of materials, including paper and tissue paper. It was lovely to see them experimenting with textures and colours and expressing their creativity so confidently.

Swimming lessons!

What a wonderful six weeks we've had at Parklands! The children have absolutely loved their swimming lessons, and it’s been amazing to watch their confidence and skills grow each week.

A massive thank you to Mrs Edwards for organising everything for our Year 2 and Year 5 students, we really appreciate it!

Our trip to Wildwood Escot.

Last week, we visited Escot Wildwood for an exciting educational trip to learn about animals and their habitats. We had a fantastic time exploring the maze, observing the incredible wildlife (including bears, owls, Arctic foxes, and many more) and taking part in hands‑on workshops. The children dissected owl pellets to investigate what owls eat and searched for wildlife in the pond, where we discovered lots of fascinating creatures, including newts.

It was a brilliant day full of learning and memorable adventures.

Exploring microhabitats in the forest school area.

Last week in Science, we were learning all about microhabitats. We explored the forest school area, searching for different animals living under rocks, leaves, logs and other hidden places. The children loved investigating and discovering the tiny creatures!

Reading buddies with the Cuckoo's class in the sunshine.

Cricket morning on Monday 16th March.

On Monday 16th March we had a cricket workshop with a lady from Devon cricket. The children took part in a range of activities to develop their throwing, catching, bowling and batting. They had a fantastic time working on their cricket skills!

World Book Day!

The sun is shining!

It was lovely to make the most of the rare bit of sunshine we've had so far this year by heading out onto the playground and getting stuck into some of our favourite books!
