Weddings

We've been learning about Weddings from different religions. We enjoyed a Christian Wedding at St. Mary's Church and a Muslim Wedding in our classroom. Both Weddings were followed by food and dancing. We talked about the similarities and differences between the two Weddings. It was lots of fun!

Around the World

Our topic this term has been 'Around the World.' Children have brought in artefacts from all around the World to show us, we've looked at different places on the World map, learnt about homes, traditional clothing, animals and weather around the World. We even built our own aeroplane and airport so that we could travel on our adventures.

Hatching Chicks

We were very excited when our eggs started to hatch! We got to watch some of them emerging from their eggs and we were all very gentle when we were allowed to hold them. A big thank you to Niamh's mum for arranging this exciting experience for us!

Forest School

We had lots of fun in 'Forest School.' We made our own artwork inspired by Andy Goldsworthy, we went exploring, climbed trees and made mud pies amongst other things.

Paignton Zoo

We had an amazing time at the zoo. There were lots of exciting animals to see, the wobbly bridge was lots of fun and we enjoyed having a bus ride together with our friends!

Animal Man

The PTA kindly arranged for the 'Animal Man' to visit our school to celebrate David Attenborough's 100th Birthday. We met lots of exciting creatures -thank you!

Monet's Water Lilies

We have been learning about Claude Monet. Look at some of the beautiful artwork we have created inspired by Monet's Water Lilies.

 

Lifecycle of a Frog

Our theme this half term is 'Growing.' This week we have been learning about the Lifecycle of a frog. We were very excited to discover that some of the tadpoles that we have been watching had started to grow into froglets.

Farm Visit

We enjoyed another visit to Mrs Glover's farm before Easter. We have been learning about the 4 Seasons so we looked for signs of Spring. We especially enjoyed racing up and down the field.

Farmer Duck

We have loved writing our own 'Farmer Duck' stories this week -look at some of our amazing writing!

 

Marvellous Maths

We've been very busy in Year R practicing all of the maths skills that we've been learning, including adding and subtracting, doubling, making ten and repeating patterns. 

Happy Mother's Day!

We've been very busy making flowers, cards and pictures for Mother's Day . . .

Floating and Sinking

We had lots of fun exploring floating and sinking. We especially enjoyed making boats from plasticine and foil and thinking about why the plasticine sank when we made it into balls but floated when we made it into boat shapes.

Odds and Evens

Learning about Magnets

We've been having lots of fun learning about magnets. We learnt that magnets can attract and repel each other and that some (but not all) metals are attracted to magnets. We especially enjoyed making moving scenes using paperclips and magnets.

World Book Day

 

Space

We've had lots of fun learning about Space this week. We've made our own rockets and space stations, learnt about famous Astronauts including Neil Armstrong and Mae Jemison, written facts about the Solar System and made lists for our own Space Missions . . .

Shape

We have been exploring the composition of shape . . .

 

Chinese New Year

We had lots of fun in our Chinese Restaurant. We especially enjoyed using the chopsticks and taking orders . . .

We made and ate our own Chinese stir fry . . .

And we made our own recipe books . . .

 

Dress Up Day

Yesterday we came to school dressed as what we would like to be when we grow up. The children all looked amazing! We had . . .

Builders, Farmers, Astronauts, Princess' and even a Grandpa!

Opticians Role-Play

We've had lots of fun playing in our Opticians role play area this week. We've been practicing our phonics by testing each other's eye sight and have especially enjoyed trying on all the different glasses.

Speech and Language Therapist Visit

Speech and Language Therapist, Alice, came to visit us this week. She told us how she helps children that find talking tricky. She taught us some sign language and even gave us all our names in Braille!

Police Visit

This week Police Officer Rebecca came in to meet us. We learned about how the Police help people and had a great time exploring the Police Van. We've also had a Police Station in our role-play area, made our own police hats and used our knowledge of repeating patterns to make police cars.

Nurse Visit

We enjoyed a visit from Nurse Mandy last week. She showed us some of the special equipment that she uses to help people.

Real Life Superheroes

We have enjoyed learning about some real life Superheroes in Year R, both past and present. We have learnt about Florence Nightingale and Marie Curie, we had a fun visit from a Midwife last week and we are looking forward to meeting a Nurse this week.
