Spring Newsletter 19/01/2020

19/1/2020

This week our newsletter contains news about the breakfast club, St Petrocks, Year 4 trip to Harry Potter Studios,  The Great Garden Bird Watch 2020, Spring Term Clubs and more.
Breakfast Club
These lovely photos were taken at Breakfast Club on Thursday. Our leader, Ruth Elliott, brought in leaves, bark, mosses and branches and the children created indoor trees. More activities such as this will be continuing this week; please book your children in if you would like them to be involved.
St Petrocks
Shortly before Christmas, Scarlett from year 2, delivered 19 wrapped presents and a carrier bag of toiletries to St Petrock’s in Exeter for distribution to people who are homeless. The centre were very grateful and have written to express their thanks to all those of you who donated towards this cause.

Year 4 trip to the Harry Potter studios.
On Thursday, Year 4 travelled to Watford to visit the Warner Bros Studio to learn all about the making of the Harry Potter film series. Not only did they learn all about how the costumes and sets were built and created, but
they also had a go at flying broomsticks and walking across the famous Hogwarts’ bridge. They had a wand combat tutorial, learnt how to effectively fight against Deatheaters and enjoyed a couple of glasses of Butterbeer! They really enjoyed discovering all of the special effects secrets and finding out how some of the magical creatures for the films were created. They were especially lucky because everything was covered in snow, even the beautiful Hogwarts model at the end. It was fantastic to be complimented by several members of the public for the children’s exceptional behaviour as well. We had a truly magical day at the studio!

The Great Garden Bird Watch 2020
Take part in the world’s largest wildlife survey on 25-27 January and do something great for nature. Just choose an hour any time over the three days and enjoy time with nature whilst counting birds.
How to take part

It’s easy to take part. An hour with the birds is a wonderful opportunity to sit back, relax and spend time with nature. So, pop the kettle on, put your feet up and start counting!

• Watch the birds for one hour
Choose an hour between 25 and 27 January to watch the birds in your garden or local park.

• Count the most birds that land at once
Only count the birds that land in your garden or park, not those flying over. The same birds may land more than once, so you can avoid double counting by recording the highest number of each bird species you see at any one time
– not the total number you count over the hour.
• Tell us what you saw

Every count is important, so don’t worry if you don’t see anything. Observing which birds aren’t around is as important as seeing the ones that are. You can submit your results online at rspb.org.uk/birdwatch from 25 January until 16 February.

Quiz Night - The Kings Arms, South Zeal - Sunday 26th January- 8pm-
Please book a team direct with The Kings Arms Pub.
Please come and support the quiz. This month proceeds will be donated to the 1st South Zeal Scout Group.
Many thanks, 1st South Zeal Scouts
