School News

May 27th, 2020

27/5/2020

Dear parents,

Please see attached an important letter from the Dartmoor MAT trustees regarding the wider re-opening of schools. Please note that the trustees have decided that the re-opening should be delayed until the 8th of June in order to ensure that all health and safety considerations have been taken into account and acted upon.
Further details about re-opening to pre-school, Year R, Year 1 and Year 6 from the 8th June will follow next week, but please be aware that the opening will be phased throughout the week - not all priority year groups will be able to return on Monday 8th. The reason for this is to ensure that all guidelines can be met as numbers increase.
If you are a critical worker and require provision for your child to cover the days you are at work, please book them into the 'Critical Workers' Club' which will be open to all critical workers' children from Tuesday 2nd June. You will notice that there are options for provision for the morning only, the afternoon only or all day; this is to help fit around your shift patterns. If you are able to look after your children at home on any day, please do so; this is still the safest option for them.
It will greatly help us with planning if you could make any bookings as soon as possible. Thank you.
Please be assured that we are working hard to ensure that everything is ready for the wider reopening and that parents of priority year groups will receive more information over the next week to help prepare you and your children for the return.
If you have any problems, please do email me smarvin@southtawton.org
Very best wishes and enjoy the rest of this lovely, sunny week,
Sarah Marvin

Dear school,
We wanted to let you know about the launch of Sustrans Outside In, a free resource to help parents who are looking after their children at home.
Walking, cycling and scooting are great ways to keep active and healthy in body and mind. During this time where we are mostly required to stay at home, these activities become harder to do.
Sustrans Outside In provides fun ideas and inspiration for parents to bring education, health and wellbeing activities into their home.

Parents can access resources by registering for our free parent newsletter. Over four weeks, they’ll receive weekly videos, themed activities, games and challenges designed by our experienced school officers.
If you think these resources would be useful to your home schooled students, please let parents know about it. Include a link to the subscription page www.sustrans.org.uk/OutsideIn on your website, social media and other communication channels and encourage parents to sign up.
Thank you in advance for your support. If you have any questions, get in touch at education@sustrans.org.uk. To find out more about Sustrans Outside In visit:

Dear parents,
You all have another week of home-learning behind you. Well done and thank you to all our families who are meeting new challenges with such good humour and resilience! I hope that everyone continues to stay safe physically and emotionally; please remember that we are here to support if you need us and can signpost you towards agencies offering more specialist services if required.

Please see a letter from Mrs Underwood attached and be assured that we are all  working together to ensure the best possible care and education for our pupils, whatever the circumstances.

Your class teachers will be sending out the work for next week shortly. We will be beginning a new topic of Under The Sea. Please encourage your children to have a go at some of the fun, wider curriculum opportunities included on the topic webs and to send photos and work to their teachers who would love to see them! Live lessons which may link well with this topic may be found here: https://www.southtawton.co.uk/school-news/live-lessons-linking-with-under-the-sea-topic

Thank you to everyone who have sent in pictures to show how you are commemorating VE day. Please keep them coming. The gallery can be viewed here: https://www.southtawton.co.uk/school-news/ve-day-what-lovely-preparations-so-far

All the news from the week can be seen in the lovely class blogs. Some of my favourites from the week are Year 4's Star Wars: https://www.southtawton.co.uk/year-4/may-the-fourth-be-with-you, Year 2's Marvellous Monday https://www.southtawton.co.uk/year-2/its-marvellous-monday, and Year R's Billy Goat's Gruff: https://www.southtawton.co.uk/year-r/3-pigs-and-3-billy-goats-gruff

Create a National Book Token design
Children can win a £10 National Book Token for themselves and each of their classmates – and surprise them all when schools reopen!

While children are at home, encourage them to create a National Book Token design for our competition. Whether it's the school crest doodled in ink, a pencil drawing of the entire class, or something completely different, we'll choose one child's design to put on a National Book Tokens gift card every week for seven weeks.

When schools open up again, the young designer and their classmates will each receive a £10 National Book Token – emblazoned with the winning artwork – to inspire them to choose their next favourite book from their local bookshop.
