This week in Year 5 we have started our Science topic of Space. I have found out so many facts about our Solar System from the children and the books they have bought in - thank you so much! We created our own scaled-down version of the planets on a roll of toilet paper and then onto till rolls - the rocky planets are SO close together compared to the jovian planets.
We have also been discussing 'Who killed Thomas Beckett' in our History lesson - you'll have to ask your child who they think killed him: was it King Henry II, the knights or was it Thomas himself? In art, we are studying the designs of Morag Myerscough, in particular the bright colours and shapes she used to design the Sheffield Children's Hospital. Well done everyone, you've worked very hard this week. In Maths, we've been studying place value. I overheard some super conversations today when we had to solve the place value of 5 different scripts. Have a lovely weekend everyone. Mrs Leslie, Mrs Bonnett, Mrs West & Miss Williams We've really enjoyed getting to know the children in Year 5 this week. In particular, I've been impressed with their team skills such as listening to each other, taking each other's ideas on board and working together to achieve their goal. This was evident in our SCARF lessons as well as in the Saints session, where the leader commented on how impressed he was with them. Well done Year 5!
Our Saints session will always be the last slot on a Thursday afternoon so it seems a lot easier for the children to go home in their PE kits and then bring them back into school the next day. If this isn't convenient for you, please let me know. We don't generally have PE on a Friday but it's helpful to have PE kits back in school in case they need to get changed for anything. Have a lovely weekend. Mrs Leslie, Mrs Bonnett, Mrs West and Miss Williams. It was so lovely to welcome pupils into Year 5 on Wednesday. They had a wonderful day and we're really excited about the year ahead.
