Learning about Levers After experimenting how to balance a ruler with: two different sized coins, a pencil and a ruler, the class conducted an experiment to explain how we can lift a Kg weight using a lever. In English we are studying Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Book. On Thursday afternoon, we read with our Year R Reading Buddies and helped them practise their letter sounds.
With balancing tables, benches and mats out, the class performed sequences in PE involving balances, twists and jumps, displaying great control and some superb rolls to finish. Mrs Bonnett, Mrs Leslie and Miss Watts In Science, Year 5 are learning about Forces. This week we studied the effects of Gravity and Air Resistance on objects. We used this learning to try and create parachutes that would safely land an egg.
To start our English unit of work this term, Year 5 enjoyed a bracing walk to the top of Cosdon Beacon on Monday. Our Dartmoor Ranger, Ian Brooker, provided us with a fascinating guide, explaining some of the history and geology of our local part of the moors. What an amazing sense of achievement we all felt when we reached the top! Well done everyone. In Geography this term, we are studying Informal Settlements and we started the lesson with discussing what makes a good shelter. In Art, we drew pictures in the style of a post-impressionist artist.
