We enjoyed the cricket session with Niall on Monday morning. I was really impressed with everyone's throwing skills and how you all supported and encouraged one another, well done.
In Science, we are learning about Materials and it looks like pupils had fun mixing unusual combinations! Coronation Celebration - Friday 5th May. We are looking forward to the school 'bring and share' picnic on Friday afternoon (lunches will be as normal). Pupils have been given a slip of paper with the food they are going to bring in (as chosen by the child). In between the downpours, Year 5 managed to squeeze-in an Easter Egg hunt this week. We have also enjoyed some problem solving games today.
Congratulations to Scarlett W who took part in a quiz competition and won the class a free farm visit in the Summer Term. We will keep you updated with more information when we have it. To start our new Geography and Science topics of Biomes and Plants & Living Things, Year 5 visited the Eden Project this week.
We learnt lots about adaptations and went on an exploration of the Rainforest Biome, trying to hunt particular species of plant. Jamie, the education officer, taught us about how plants protect themselves. One group particularly enjoyed watching touch-me-not plants close themselves to stop goats eating them! Pupils were impeccably behaved, Eden staff commented on the interesting questions that were asked & their eagerness to learn. Well done Year 5, it was a pleasure taking you on this trip. John Muir Night Walk
On Thursday, Year 5 took part in a night walk to Finch Foundary. It was amazing to listen to the birds at dusk and interesting to find out about the types of flora and fauna that are suitable to these temeperate rainforest and woodland conditions. Benin Art We've been finding out how Modern artists, such as Picasso and Matisse, were influenced by art from Sub-Sahara Africa. Some of us had a go at re-creatingj Benin masks. Science
