Year 6

Keeping busy.

30/4/2020

It's good to see that you're all managing to keep busy during this wet spell of weather. You've been writing poetry, created an octopus, carried out a chromatography investigation and practised your sewing skills - all great stuff. Well done everyone!

Where in the World (or the UK)?

30/4/2020

With the weather taking a rather soggy turn, I thought we could do with thinking of something bright and cheerful. William and I have been talking about the different places we have visited and which are our favourites. I started to wonder where you have all been.
I'm setting you a little challenge: I would like to know where, in the world or UK, has been your favourite place to visit? It would be great to upload some photos onto the blog and share some special memories and places. It doesn't have to a holiday destination, just somewhere that you particularly like.

To get started, I've posted three pictures of my favourite places: London, Liverpool and Barcelona.

Well Being - Home learning activities

29/4/2020

At a time like this, looking after your mental healthy is incredibly important. Below you will find some links to a well-being lesson and the resources that go with it.The lesson may give you some ideas for what to do during those tougher days and ways to look after your health and well-being. There are also more resources available on the well-being blog which you can access by clicking here.

Ewan's been busy.

29/4/2020

Ewan has been working hard on a project about level crossings. He's even created some instructions for how to build your own level crossing at home! Its always great to see how creative you are all getting. Don't forget to send me photos of what you've been up.

VE Day Challenge

29/4/2020

Dan Snow, a historian and TV presenter, is inviting children to take part in a VE Day challenge. As I know how much you have enjoyed learning about World War Two, I thought this may be something that would interest you. Click here to find out how you can take part. If you decide to have a go, don't forget to send me a copy of your entry.

Zoom success!

28/4/2020

It was great to see so many of you earlier during our Zoom call; sorry if you had technical issues or couldn't make it today, but hopefully you can attend the next one.
It was so lovely to see all of you; I can't quite believe how grown up you're all looking. I'm so proud of how positive you are remaining during these times and it was great to hear about you've been up to.

Have a lovely evening!

Charlotte's Bridge

27/4/2020

Myles has been very busy. He's went for a long walk today that took him to Fatherford Woods and across Charlotte's Bridge. He then decided to research, plan and write an informative piece on it. Well done, Myles!

Manic Monday

27/4/2020

I don't know about anyone else, but I feel like today has been a really busy day - I'm not sure where the time went. It's great to hear that you're looking forward to the Zoom meeting tomorrow; please let me know if you can make it to give me an idea of numbers and who to expect.

Take a look at the photos below to see what some of your class mates have been up to.

Can't wait to catch up with you all tomorrow!

Hamilton Trust Literacy

27/4/2020

I have included the links for the Hamiltion Trust literacy units that Year 6 were following previously (in case you want to continue). These are not set in addition to the literacy work outlined below and by no means compulsory, but they are there if you would like to do them instead or pick some tasks to do.

Activities for the w/c 27th April

24/4/2020

As you may already be aware, following Mrs Marvin's email, we are making some changes to the literacy work we will be setting. You will hopefully find that it requires a lot less printing as most resources can be accessed online.
I would suggest (but this isn't set in stone by any means) that you complete the grammar activities from Monday to Thursday, then apply these skills to an extended writing activity taken from the topic web. This could be one of the literacy, history or geography tasks.

For maths, we will continue to use White Rose, but if you cannot print off the work or find it too challenging, then please feel free to complete the maths activities available on BBC Bitesize. If you feel the Year 6 work is too challenging, please feel free to complete activities for a different year group.

We are now moving onto a new topic: The Americas. As with the last topic, please complete whichever tasks you choose or get creative and do something of your own choosing.

Following the transition letter than was emailed to you this morning, there are some transition activities also available on the Bitesize website that may prove useful.

Below are all the links you need.

Have a lovely weekend.

Friday - choose a writing activity from the topic web.
