Fantastic Friday!!

26/3/2020

Good Morning Year One,
We have reached day five of our first home learning week! You've all been very busy this week and it looks like you've been having great fun; gardening, cooking, drawing, writing, playing outdoors, bike riding, experimenting, exercising, looking after animals, making obstacle courses, dancing, making videos... the list is endless.

Later on today we'll be adding an optional Easter holidays project, should you wish to have a go at it.

Year One's Challenge of the day.
Yesterday, Mrs Dennis set the challenge in her house to try reading in some different places.

How many different places can you find to read a book?

Home Learning Day 3.

25/3/2020

It's been another busy day for Year One and there has been some very exciting learning taking place. We have also had some super book recommendations that we would like to share with our friends. Please keep sending us your pictures and keep in contact. Mrs Dennis and Miss Rowe.

Book recommendations:
The Toad Road Code. Leyland Perree.

Stop !at the drop ( it’s too dangerous to hop )
Look! For things wheeled ( better keep your eyes peeled )
Listen ! All around ( can you hear any sound ?)
If there’s nothing you can see or can hear
Then hop right across you have nothing to fear !

The Secret Garden. Frances Hodgson Burnett.
We like it because the girl helps the boy that has been stuck inside.

The Terrible Greedy Fossifoo. Charles Fuge
We love the beautiful illustrations throughout the book. When the Fossifoo arrives in the Great Green forest, he is very greedy and eats up all the fruits and berries and tears up the trees, he frightens away all the forest creatures. Alone in the empty forest, he soon feels sorry for what he has done, changing his ways to save the forest before it's too late.

Home Learning- Day Three.

24/3/2020

Good Morning,

We hope you are all settling in to your new style of home learning. We have loved hearing all about what you've been up to and seeing the varying locations that it is taking place in. Here is Mrs Dennis in her home learning space. We've also been trying to get outdoors and have had lots of fun learning outside of the classrooom; carrying out science experiments, going on a nature walk, doing some maths outside the classroom, building dens and enjoying this lovely sunshine!

If you haven't managed to tune in to Youtube for the morning workout with Joe Wicks, we'd highly recommend it. It's a great workout for the whole family!

How lovely it has been to see some sunshine, if you are looking for some outdoor learning activities the Woodland trust has some lovely ideas on their website. Mrs Dennis enjoyed going on a spring nature hunt.

Also, if you are looking for some outdoor learning the following link has some great ideas for taking maths 'outside of the classroom'.

Year One question of the day..........

What book would you recommend to one of your Year One friends, and why?

Mrs Dennis: "I would recommend Peace at Last by Jill Murphy. Mr Bear cannot sleep and each time he finds somewhere new to sleep, something else keeps him awake! I think Year One will like this book because it is funny when Mr Bear keeps having to change where he sleeps!"

Miss Rowe: "I would recommend Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers. This is a wonderful story about the friendship of a boy and a penguin. The boy thinks the penguin is lost so takes him on a journey to try and find where he came from. I love the story, as well as the beautiful illustrations in this book and I think children in Year One will too."

Take care and stay safe.

Mrs Dennis and Miss Rowe.
