Year 3 have had a lovely week to round off their first half term. During the week, the children have planned and written their own explanations for how to look after a pet dragon. They all came up with some incredibly interesting and imaginative ideas. In art, they have created their own clay dragons and added the finishing touches to their dragon eggs. The class have also been working with Mrs Dunn in their music lessons and performed a short concert. Mrs Dunn has filmed this, but there have been a few technical hitches. I hope to be able to share the video with you after half term. To bring the week to an end, we enjoyed an afternoon in the Forest School. The children created some campfire pictures, made their own dragon flames, enjoyed some hot chocolate and listened to the story of Zog. Well done to all of the children for completing their first half term in Key Stage 2 and working so incredibly hard.
I hope you all have a restful and healthy half term! It's been another great week in Year 3! We started the week with a maths lesson, on the playground, to help us learn about ordering numbers. The children had great fun drawing number lines and writing their answers on the playground. We have finished place value now and are moving on the next unit, addition and subtraction. To conclude our dragons unit in English, we have started exploring explanation texts and the children will write their own explanations about how to look after a pet dragon. Over the past couple of days, the children have worked with a partner to complete a short explanation about different parts of a dragon's body. The example below is an explanation we wrote together as a class. Some of the children have written a neat version and it has been added to our display in class. Well done to you all!
Have a lovely weekend. Yesterday, the children enjoyed working with clay during their art lesson. They have completed the first steps of creating their own model of a dragon egg. Next week, the children will paint and decorate their eggs before making a small dragon to sit inside the following week. The children enjoyed using their hands and tools to create the egg shape and patterns on their eggs. This morning, the children have written letters to dragon pen pal. They have been working hard on creating and punctuating their questions. They have also been organising their writing into paragraphs. Next week, they will be writing replies and sharing their letters.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend! This week, Year 3 had the chance to add more detail to their dragon eye pictures. Some children even managed to complete them and have a go at making an origami dragon head. In PE, the children have moved onto Tag Rugby. They really enjoyed practising their defending and attacking during the tagging games. The children worked brilliantly together and displayed some excellent team work skills.
Have a lovely weekend. |
