A visit from the ducklings! This week, Year 3 and 5 were lucky enough to have some gorgeous fluffy ducklings come and visit. We learnt about what they like to eat, where they live, and how they fly…or not! A huge thank you to Sharon and Willow for bringing them in and letting us have such a great experience. This week, as part of our Science learning, we have been planting dwarf french beans. The children have been learning about what plants require to grow and will be in charge of looking after them at school. We will also be using our mathematical and observational skills to watch and measure the progress of our bean plants growth. Hopefully we will see the fruits of our labour and have some delicious beans at the end of it!
As I am sure you will have heard, Year 3 worked very hard to write their own stories based on Marc Martin's book 'A River'. The Year 3 children very proudly shared their books with the children from Mrs Culverhouse's class.
In English, we have started looking at non-chronological reports. We have learnt what they are and the features we might see in them such as headings, subheadings, paragraphs, subject specific language, facts, diagrams etc. We had good fun researching different books and seeing if we could spot the features in them, the children collaborated on this work and showed some fantastic team work. With Years 4 and 5 on residential and Year 6 doing SATs, we were treated to an extra long PE session with Mr Stronge. The first part of the session was spent developing our backhands in tennis, and then as we did so well, we finished the lesson with a big game of dodgeball which was loved by all!
In Maths this week, we have been learning about volume and capacity. We had great fun exploring this in a practical way with green water and different measuring jugs and cylinders! The children have been using their knowledge of reading scales to measure accurately. We also had a wonderful time celebrating the King’s coronation. Here are all the children with their outstanding crowns. We were so impressed by their creativity and resourcefulness. Thank you to everyone who came out to watch and cheer on our Crown parade, it was lovely seeing so many happy faces. Thank you also to everyone who brought food in for the Coronation picnic this afternoon, it was all delicious and enjoyed by all the children.
