Eco Club: How to make a tetra pak wallet - HOW TO LINK (click here)

In Eco Club this week we looked at what we could do with waste, we decided to make wallets out of oat milk cartons. Such fun and very easy!

You will need:

• tetra pak carton (oak milk for example)
• scissors
• Stapler
• hole punch
• tape
• elastic band

We started our new English sequence this week 'Escape from Pompeii' by Christina Balit, we had fun looking at Roman artefacts and then exploring the front cover of the book and noticing what we see, why it might be there and what we wander about it. E.g. There is a boat with a vase and cloth in it, they might be there as the people have collected their special items as they ran away from the volcano, I wander if they get to safety?

In Art, Mrs White showed the class the Colosseum, and they then set to and made their own from clay using tools and their designs. Absolutely brilliant.  The class have expressed an interest in having a Roman themed day to finish the topic off, this will be in the week before half term. More info to follow.

Please find below our English working wall at the moment followed by the CLEAPSS Viking Amulet making morning we enjoyed. 

Our working wall shows the process of our teaching sequence for the text 'The Beasties'. It shows drama in acting out the story, to creating our own class shared version, we then brought in special objects to stimulate our minds and imagination, and we ended with writing our own fabulous stories. We then drafted and edited them and have made our final versions into three class books.  

We were very lucky to a have a member of CLEAPSS join our class this morning to trial a Viking Amulet making lesson. The children were told about amulets, shown an example, they were then given a piece of paper to design their own using Viking symbols. The clay was lovely and malleable and the amulets they have made are now drying. These will be strung and sent home next week.
