We have been reading The BFG by Roald Dahl. We have thought about our favourite parts of the story: "My favourite part of the story was the helicopters carrying the giants." Alice "My favourite part is when Sophie meets the Queen." Archie "My favourite part was the BFG using the Dream Catcher." Leo "My favourite part was when Sophie and The BFG were looking at all the dream jars." Evie The children loved the part when The BFG showed Sophie his collection of dream jars.
They have written some fantastic ideas of their own: As part of our Science topic this term, we have been learning about raw and synthetic materials.
We have learnt that raw materials can come from living things or they can be found under the ground. We have learnt that synthetic materials are made by humans and have a variety of uses. This week, the children enjoyed investigating different materials and sorting them into groups. Wow , what an exciting week we have had. The children have done Mrs Graham and I proud.
The children really enjoyed their circus acts. They all performed well. We have all enjoyed our harvest celebrations at the church and in the school hall. We hope you all have a restful and peaceful half term break. The children have been working hard in Year 3 this week.
They have read the story of 'Leon and the Place Between.' They have acted out their favourite parts of the story and they have each written a magical story of their own! In maths the children have been working hard to improve their addition and subtraction skills. Today they were subtracting numbers on a number line. We have had a lovely last week of Year 3. Sports Day was a great success and it was wonderful to see the South Tawton spirit and teams working together. We were so proud of every child involved and saw everyone giving 110%. We had an award ceremony in class today, here are some photos: It was very special to say goodbye to our friends in Year 6 this morning and goodbye to those in our class who are moving on to new adventures. We wish you all the best! Hope you all have a truly wonderful summer holidays. Thank you for a wonderful time at South Tawton!
In Science this term, we have been learning about the human body. We have been lucky enough to have Mrs Woolnough give us a talk about the musculoskeletal system. Mrs Woolnough is a very talented TA at our school, but she is also a physiotherapist and was able to share her wealth of knowledge with us. We leant about bones, muscles, tendons and ligaments. She very kindly brought in some models for us to look at and explore. Mrs Woolnough has even inspired some children to become physios in the future! Thank you so much Mrs Woolnough :-) With Mrs Dunn in Art/Dt this term, the children have been designing and creating enclosures for their favourite animals. The children had to consider the needs of the animal for example, access to food and water. They also used the computers to do further research to make sure the enclosure was suitable for their animals. Here are their creations: In PSHE and Science, we have been learning about the human body; how it works and how to look after it. We have been thinking about healthy lifestyles and finding balance as well as what makes a healthy meal and how exercise can help us. We have been using what we know and creating poster to share our knowledge. Here are some of them: We were luck enough to have OCRA visiting school today and running a quad athletics session with us. We completed the following activities; sprint, standing long jump, vortex throw, and longer distance run.
All the children really showed their sporting abilities and it was lovely seeing them really shine. Here are some photos: It has been a lovely warm start back to the last half term. The children have settled back in to routines and we have started our new learning. I am really sorry but we have not managed to get any photos this week as we have been so busy!
In English, we have started reading 'The Lost Thing' by Shaun Tan. We have been exploring the characters, writing character descriptions and using adjectives, similes and metaphors. The story was also remade into a short film which we will be using in class to help us with some writing. In History, we are starting to learn about the Shang Dynasty, this week we learnt about how Shang people would make decisions, and why they wrote on turtle shells. We are really enjoying the book below which is helping learn new facts in an interesting way! A visit from the ducklings! This week, Year 3 and 5 were lucky enough to have some gorgeous fluffy ducklings come and visit. We learnt about what they like to eat, where they live, and how they fly…or not! A huge thank you to Sharon and Willow for bringing them in and letting us have such a great experience. |
