Year R in space

Using the story 'Look Up' by Nathan Bryon as a starting point, the class have enjoyed lots of learning about space. The children learnt facts, thought about what they would see in space and what they would take on a space adventure.

Shapes

This week's maths focus has been learning about circles and triangles. We read the stories 'Circle' and 'triangle' by Marc Barnett, made our own shape pictures in the style of Kandinsky and enjoyed a shape hunt around school with our Year 5 buddies. We have been choosing lots of shape related activities in our Independent Learning times too.

A spooky week

There have been some spooky goings on in Year R this week. We have decorated the classroom, dressed up, made wands and helped a witch make potions for her spell book.

End of the first half term

We walked with our Year 5 buddies to South Tawton Church to take part in the school Harvest Festival. Back in class we have made Autumn patterns and pictures and practised our letter sounds to start reading words.

Literacy texts

19/10/2023

We enjoy stories everyday in Year R. As part of our literacy work this half term we have learnt about 'The Fox and the Star', 'I am Henry Finch' and 'My Shadow is Pink'.

Autumn crafts

7/10/2023

We enjoyed the wonderful early autumn sunshine in our forest area this week. The children helped gather sticks for our camp fire before making autumn wreaths and salt dough hedgehogs. We all liked the hot chocolate and hedgehog themed story to end the morning.

Our first trip out

30/9/2023

It was pleasure to take our first trip out of school and walk to Mrs Glover's farm. After saying Hello to the pigs we searched the hedgerows for blackberries. Back in class we created apple and blackberry crumbles to take home for our families to enjoy.

18-22 September

This week we have been practising our sorting skills and talking about the sorting rules. We were excited to meet our new Year 5 buddies, we shared the collages we made from home.

Our first full week at school

16/9/2023

The whole class have just completed their first full week of school and celebrated by receiving a certificate each in assembly. They have been exploring their new classroom and outdoor space and learning routines. Staff have been very impressed by how well they have all settled and taken to school life so quickly.
