We were so excited for our chicks to hatch this week. They have lived in the corner of our classroom and come out for cuddles each day.
This week we have been spotting, continuing and creating our own patterns in lots of different ways. We have enjoyed the book 'Pattern Fish' and colouring our own pattern fish. We were lucky enough to enjoy a visit from the Dartmoor Rescue group this week. Children thought of interesting questions to ask and listened well to find out about the important work the rescue group do. The class even worked together to lift the dummy on the heavy stretcher... young rescuers in the making!
This week we have been exploring 3D shapes. Children have been building, printing, making and working with different shapes. Children have been able to sort and describe the properties of solid shapes.
This week we have planted three trees in our school field. The children learnt about the differences between the Silver Birch, Hazel and Oak trees. To accompany them, we made our own signs in the woodwork area. We look forward to watching them grow as the children move along their journey through school.
Spring is in the air in Year R. We were excited to take delivery of our eggs from Farmer Jo this week and are carefully keeping them warm and safe in the incubator. We are also chitting our seed potatoes and looking at the flowers growing in our playground. We will keep you updated.
A great day celebrating World Book Day! Children made a super effort with their costumes and used some lovely language to talk about their characters. They also wrote about them and shared stories with their reading buddies. Our woodwork area has been so busy this week. Children have been drawing plans, selecting equipment and using real tools to create their pieces.
