This week we have been reading information texts to find out about animals. We have used excellent vocabulary to describe animals for our classmates to guess. We even had to describe the animal biscuits we shared for our snack treat.
Look at the animals we found on our outdoor adventures this week... cheetahs, zebras, snakes, lions, tigers and giraffes! We all had a great week exploring the Arctic and Antarctic. We had a visit from a real scientist who has been to Antarctica; we saw his photos and viewed webcams. We also watched videos of ice hockey and had a go ourselves. Our igloo reading tent was popular as well as 'snow writing' and melting ice in different places.
All that was missing this week was some real snow! We started off our weekly show and tell sessions this Friday. Talks were about a giant dinosaur, fossil hunting, places around the world and looking after rabbits. Each child spoke clearly about their chosen topic and answered questions. We look forward to seeing and hearing from others next week. This week, in our trip around the world, we have learnt about Africa. We have explored using different instruments, hearing African music and colour mixing. After reading Handa's Surprise, children retold the story and also tried different fruits. There were graphs and tallies to find out which were the most popular; pineapple was a class favourite, but guava was a close second.
We have started the new year off with some super DT projects. Children have drawn plans, selected resources and used tools to measure, cut, nail, and attach. They have been learning new skills and problem solving along the way. A range of creations are on display and plans are lined up, ready to make next week. |
